Handmade shawls from the historic city of Varanasi, along the sacred River Ganges. Known locally as Mother Ganga, the river has been an inspiration for centuries. Varanasi is renowned for its Banras silk, known for its softness and elegance, which has made Banarasi silk saris highly sought after for their intricate designs and cooling comfort.

The shawls are hand woven on old wooden looms often in the weaver’s home. The hand weavers of Varanasi have been practising their craft for centuries. Their looms, often simple and wooden, are set up in small workshops throughout the city.

The shawls, like the saris often feature floral and paisley patterns. The paisley design, which gained popularity in 16th century Kashmir, is believed to ward off bad luck. These patterns are not just decorative but are deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of the region.
